Charlie Munger & John Collison (Invest Like the Best, 2023)
Released on Invest Like the Best (EP.355) the day Stripe Press relaunched Poor Charlie’s Almanack — and the week after Munger died — this is a long, generous conversation between Munger and John Collison, the Stripe co-founder, recorded at Munger’s Los Angeles home. The timing was poignant: the interview was meant to mark the Almanack’s reissue, and the team chose to release it as planned after his death, believing that is what he would have wanted.
Why listen. Collison is a builder, not a finance interviewer, and the questions reflect it — Munger gets drawn into how he judges the quality of a business, why he never bought Amazon, what actually makes Costco’s model work, and how multidisciplinary thinking compounds over a lifetime. He’s his usual blunt self on cryptocurrency and the state of American society, and there’s a thread on his lifelong passion for architecture that you won’t find in the investing-only recordings. It runs well over an hour and a half, so there’s room for him to develop ideas fully.
A nice bookend. Paired with the Acquired episode from the same autumn, this is one of the last long-form conversations he gave — and the one most directly tied to Poor Charlie’s Almanack, the book that distills his thinking.
